Press Release: 21 January 2013
There are literally hundreds of media reports regarding the rise of interest in demonology and the curiosity people have regarding the Rite of Exorcism. Movies such as the 1973 Horror film; The Exorcist, as well as the more recent; The Rite have once again renewed interest in the ancient sacramental rite referred to as Exorcism, unfortunately with such interest, societal problems can arise. With plots that are fictitious, even when based on actual events, movies inspire scenarios in which otherwise good, well-meaning people can become desensitized to the very real dangers of the paranormal or without meaning to do so, inflict irreparable harm while trying to conduct a “do-it-your-self” exorcism, something that must never be attempted by laqy people.
While the Roman Catholic church sponsors training for its select of the Priest hood, there are few organizations that do the same for non-Roman Catholics. One of the best is The Sacred Order Of St. Michael: Order of Exorcists. (SOSM) Which can offer training and mentorship for those who feel called to do battle with the forces of Satan and his fallen angels.
In 1980 the Order was known as a small Catholic Parish called Saint Michael Catholic Church located in Highland Park, California. With many outreach programs in the communities of Glendale and Eagle Rock. The Church started to receive requests from people claiming symptoms of demonic possession and wanted the church to send a priest for demonic investigation and exorcism, if needed. Before long, requests were coming outside of our geographical area. Archbishop Ron Feyl decided to reach out and recruit members of the clergy from other jurisdictions.
Now 2013, The SOSM is affiliated with 18 jurisdictions, 16 parishes, and 18 exorcist investigators in many states and countries.
Because of the increasing requests for exorcism and demonic investigations and not enough exorcists / exorcist investigators, the SOSM is recruiting seminarians, priests, bishops, and Christian paranormal investigators for membership in the Order of Exorcists.
The SOSM has Bishops, Priests and Exorcist investigators, in place throughout North America and around the world. Membership is free to Bishops of the various orthodox movements and a very small fee for training materials is charged for all others.
